Manual and Movement Therapy

Manual and Movement Therapy Sessions
Manual therapy on a table

Sometimes people come to me not knowing that I do the 12 series of Structural Integration or even what that work involves. I may recommend a 12 series if I feel that's the most likely way for you get out of your pattern of chronic pain, but if your injury or pain is more recent, then we could address the specific issue with less sessions.

If we focus on your specific injury or recent symptoms it's still important for us to look at the entire body and find the cause. Many times the low back and hips can be effected by the feet or knees, as an example, so we could start further from the symptoms than you might be used to with other therapists. Typically these sessions can be shorter in length and can range from 30 to 60 minutes. We may start with a few longer sessions closer together and then shorten them and spread them out as your symptoms and patterns start to resolve. Typically many acute injuries or recent pain can be resolved in 3-8 sessions.

I should say that I do not do "Traditional Massage Therapy", as in using oil with you between two sheets while relaxing for an hour. We would start our session with a full assessment of your posture and overall movement patterns and that will show us the most obvious areas that we need to address. You will be wearing athletic clothing throughout the session, which can include on table work and standing up multiple times to perform movements or to reassess your symptoms. I tend to think of these sessions as Manual Physio, meaning that I use my manual and movement techniques to help improve your alignment and mobilty and decrease your symptoms. We then create and record specific exercises for you to do as part of your homework to keep improving the changes we've made.

With my years of experience and continuous education I tend to see clients who have been to multiple therapists with minimal positive results. Usually within 3 or 4 sessions we will know if my approach is going to help you, as you will hopefully start moving better and feeling an improvement in your symptoms. It's very important for me to be upfront with you about my ability to help you, so if no real changes are happening and I have run out of ways to address your complaints, I will recommend a therapist that I feel may be better suited to help you.
